ENKHUIZEN _  Only 18 months after introducing the Winner 9.00, Winner Yachts has unveiled an 8m sibling. The 8.00 Winner is the work of designer Cees van Tongeren (Van de Stadt Design) and, like the 9.00, comes in cruising and racing versions.  The Dutch yard says the smallest Winner will be available as of September, 2014, with an open or closed aft cabin.

In developing the 8.00, Winner Yachts it focused on a low center of gravity to ensure stability. The boat has a standard 1.5m draft but, as with all current Winners, you can change to another draft version later. The 8.00 has the same pedigree as the 9m, 102m and 12.2 m Winners. But the littlest in the family can be put on a trailer and hauled to a European lake of your choice. The yard believes the model should appeal to young families as well as passage makers and day-sailers. It comes in  2 versions _ Welcome and Performance _ and has an optional mast-lowering system.

The Welcome Edition is the starter version. The Performance Edition is for the racer looking for that extra pu87nch and comes with a larger, square-top main sail, retractable gennaker pole and equipment.

Winner Yachts gives its customers the possibility to grow up with the 8.00 model. It offers features that can be installed at a later date such as cabinets, that retractable bow sprits, electronics and so on. Anyone handy with tools can do the installation himself by obtaining the complete package at the yard.

Winner Yachts is on a roll. ‘Zeilen’ magazine named the 9.00 Winner its 2013 Sailboat of the Year. And the yacht was nominated as 2014 European Sailboat in the family cruiser category. Now comes the 8m Winner that gets good marks from Zeilen, though it says that “with a 2.8m beam and weighing 2.3 tons, empty”  trailering the craft will not be a piece of cake. The boat sleeps 4, has a small galley and toilet, a transom-hung rudder and an inboard engine. The yard estimates the 8.00 Winner will be marketed for about €70,000 ($96,500)
