Amsterdam show nominates 2014 boats

AMSTERDAM _ The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show has nominated 3 Dutch-made sailing craft _ the Winner 9.00, the Essence-33 and the Contest-42 – for the 2014 Sailboat of the Year award. The nomination is for production boats that came onto the market in 2013. The 3 nominated craft have that in common. And that’s where fair comparison ends. The nominated boats are very different sail boats serving very different markets.

The boat show jury of nautical media editors, chaired by Hugo van Wieringen, head of Azure Naval Architects, said the Winner 9.00 (above) is “very comfortable under sail, shows a good price/quality relationship and exhibits a notable modular construction.” It praised the Essence-33 day sailer (left) for its “outstanding finishing,” and said of the Contest-42 (below): “fast boat, well made, very quiet, lots of space for its length.”

The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show also nominated 3 power yachts: The Interboat NEO 7.0 (“optimal use of space, innovative”), the Vri-jon-29 (“extraordinarily complete) and the Contest-52 MC (“keen design, innovative”). The latter is the  first motor yacht from the Contest yard. The HISWA Amsterdam Boat Show will be held March 5-9, 2014
