AMSTERDAM ~ The Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) has announced a new award at the annual show that will showcase the quality and innovation of boat builders worldwide. The inaugural “Boat Builders Business Achievement Award” will be judged at the 2015 METS show in Amsterdam.

In announcing the new award at last month’s 2014 METS’ Nick Hopkinson, the publishing director of IBI, said the new award aims to offer boat builders the platform they deserve at the world’s largest annual gathering of marine equipment suppliers.

“This new joint initiative from IBI and the RAI is designed to recognize outstanding accomplishments within the boat building industry,” said Hopkinson. “The emphasis will be very much on business achievement and the people and teams involved in building and marketing boats. This will set the IBI/METS Boat Builders Business Achievement Awards apart from the many existing awards in the boating world.”

Nominations will be sought from across the marine industry. IBI’s daily newsletter and the newsletter of its sister title Superyacht Business reach over 20,000 subscribers. Also, the METSTRADE site reaches many thousands of suppliers and boat builders across the world.

The Boat Builders Business Achievement Awards organizers will call for submissions in the first quarter of 2015. The jury will comprise individuals who have run major marine sector companies and journalists from around the world. The award will be announced at a gala dinner during the 2015 METS show.

Says Irene Dros, Maritime Domain Manager at RAI. “We have expressly chosen to highlight areas within boatbuilding that do not always get the attention they deserve and yet have a vital importance to suppliers.” The 2014 METS show reeled in a record 1,358 exhibitors this year.
