ROTTERDAM _ In 2014, Dutch superyacht builders signed contracts for 22 vessels, a drop of 14 compared to 2013. But Netherlands Maritime Technology, a grouping of Dutch shipyards and their suppliers, said despite that decline, the value of superyacht orders recorded last year was €1.5 billion compared to €1.4 billion in 2013.

NMT said the 2014 outcome reflected “the increasing size and value” of superyachts ordered. It added several Dutch superyacht yards are increasing their capacity in the face of rising demand.

In 2014, Western Europe’s relations with Russia worsened and economic growth in China and other emerging economies slowed. On the other hand, the NMT said a weaker euro offered some relief.

Its report paints a rosy outlook for Dutch superyacht makers. At the end of 2014, Dutch superyacht builders had 70 yachts on order representing a total value of more than €4 billion. Deliveries from Dutch yards slipped in 2014: 16 superyachts worth €649 billion, were sold, down from 23 in 2013 when orders were value €807 billion.
