New generation of ‘bold design’ trailers

ALPHEN A/D RIJN - They are boat trailers the likes of which the world has not seen. At Amsterdam’s recent Marine Equipment Trade Show they captured the coveted 2013 DAME Design Award in the marine equipment category. The jury praised Dutch trailer maker Vanclaes for engineering a “strongly built boat trailer with a bold design, a striking use of materials and distinctive branding (that) offers something different in this sector.”

Maker of tailor-made trailers, Van Claes says it spent 3 years studying and developing a better trailer and came up with a  radical new concept featuring a patented loading and unloading system. Vanclaes says its newest trailors are safer and more functional than traditional ones. The METS jury said Vanclaes has made boat launching and haul-out a hassle-free event, thanks to a wraparound trailer platform that keeps feet dry. Importantly, it also adds structural strength to the trailer and protects the boat from grit and mud flying up from the roadway.

The jury was also charmed by Vanclaes’ use of “integrated waterproof  lights” that do away with the need of a separate rear trailer board with lights. The integrated LED lights are powered by a microchip.
