Luxury Osprey 38 CC for US market
HEEG _ Dorus Wajer began building classy open cockpit tenders in 1992. Today _ 60 gorgeous boats later _ the Wajer & Wajer yard reports a healthy demand for its fast and luxurious Osprey tenders that stretch to 11.3 m (38ft). (photo). This year, it is launching a 38 CC (central console).
“The Osprey 38 CC was designed especially for the US market,” says Dries Wajer, the son of the yard’s founder. “We have a presence in Miami and the Osprey 38 CC will serve that market well.” Wajer & Wajer Yachts is building a new production hall of 20,000 sq. meters (21,530 sq. feet). It will be ready in October.
Wajer says his yard’s turnover grew by 20% in the last 3 years. It makes 5 models: the Captain’s Launch, the Zeelander and the Wajer Osprey 38, 37 and 34. So as not to be completely dependent on the Dutch market, Wajer & Wajer launched an international Osprey marketing campaign in recent years with the help of Vripack Naval Architects. The Osprey 37 was the first out of the box. It was immediately named the 2006 Motorboat of the year.
“A top-flight, open yacht of this type was not available then,” says Wajer. “This yacht created its own market segment. It is a fast, luxury open cockpit dayboat. It is offers an ideal mix of good looks, space and comfort and boasts excellent sailing qualities at low and high speeds.”
The Osprey 34 has a V8 Yanmar diesel that packs 370HP, good for a cruising speed of 24 kn. and a top speed of 38 kn. The 37 and 38 both come with Volvo D4-DP, 301HP diesels that generate top speeds of 35 to 45 kn. Heavier engines are optional. For European clients, Osprey offers a maintenance-and-winter-storage deal that includes transporting the yachts by road to the yard’s headquarters. Faraway clients are offered maintenance every few years, either on the spot or at the yard’s facilities.
