‘Instant success’ Contest Yachts MC-52
Contest Yachts, long a Dutch powerhouse in the manufacture of sailing yachts introduced its first motor cruiser in 2013. The MC-52 was an “instant success that quickly resulted in several orders,” says the yard. Crucially, last January it was nominated for 2014 European Powerboat of the Year at Boot Düsseldor6f. In response to that acclaim and market demand, the yard is now issuing a 52MC flybridge.
The Contest 52MC was a collaborative effort of designer Georg Nissen, Vripack Naval Architects and the Wetzels Brown Partners interior design group. The flybridge version features a large upper deck and a steering station accessed by a spiral staircase from the main. The 52MC5 Flybridge has a height of 3.74m. Contest Yachts makes the 52MC in 2 other versions: the ‘original’ 52MC and the 52MC Open Sport, both with a height of 2.88m.
The 52MC, a semi-planer craft with good sailing qualities at all speeds, a composite hull, a decent range and a sharp V-bow that renders little pitch. It has a top speed of 26kn. Contest Yachts opted for a 52ft yacht (almost 16m) saying it is a size that works well across Europe. The 52MV has a beam of 2.88m, a draft of 0.88m and displaces 16,600 kg. It houses berths for 6 to 8 people and is CE-A certified.
