Habitent: a modest cover charge

March 28, 2013 by robert in Featured, Maritime Netherlands with 0 Comments

ZAANDAM _ A cockpit cover is never a luxury in the Netherlands which gets more than its fair share of rain and wind and nastiness. Nor is it in warm climes where protection against intense sunlight merits serious attention. One problem with cockpit covers:  they are universally pricey.

Rosch Marine, a company specializing in “smart boating products” offers an alternative. It markets the Habitent, a cockpit cover that comes in 2 standard sizes and fits many sailing yachts. The cover is made of hydrophobic canvas. It is color-fast, flame-retardant and indifferent to UV radiation. It has 3 windows, each featuring a roll-away sun and fly screen. Both Habitent versions are 1.25m high and 3m long. But the width varies from 1.6 to 2m, or from 2 to 2.4m. The price is: €495. Rosch Marine says the Habitent fits on yachts with and without a sprayhood.
