A graying remedy: marina water chalets

July 3, 2013 by robert in Broad Reach, Featured with 0 Comments

LELYSTAD _ Flevo Marina here is luring visitors _ boaters and non-boaters _ with floating water chalets for 4 or 6 persons that can be rented for a week, a mid-week period or weekend. The chalets are the latest weapons in the fight against graying that is emptying marina berths in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe.

Flevo Marina Director Peter de Vries: “We attract couples and families. But if you no longer have a boat … then a walk up and down the marina piers, or a meal in the restaurant is all you get to do. Water chalets are an ideal way to still enjoy a marina atmosphere and taste life on the water. This is also ideal if daddy wants to take part in a regatta while mom takes the kids to the beach.”

Flevo Marina is considering several types of chalets. They can also be purchased. Prices start at €50.000.

De Vries is optimistic, given the large number of reservations he has received to date. The chalets on offer at Flevo Marina are made by Bestmarine, a company that markets 3 models. Rents start at  €125,00/night. The chalets can be easily moored in a marina, have year-round heat and can be hooked up to wall power and water. They are furnished and have a fully equipped kitchen
